What is your gold really worth?
Every other calculator shows only the inflated melt value. We show that and the realistic price a dealer will actually pay — so you walk in knowing the real number.

How the gold calculator works
The maths is simple and we show all of it. For each piece we take your weight, convert it to grams, multiply by the carat's fineness to get the pure-metal content, then multiply by the live gold price per gram:
melt = grams × fineness × (spot price per troy oz ÷ 31.1035)
That melt figure is what nearly every other UK calculator stops at. But no dealer pays 100% of melt — they have to test, refine and make a margin. So we apply your chosen realistic payout percentage to show what you're actually likely to receive. A MoneySavingExpert thread records a seller quoted £672 of melt value being offered just £242 in reality — a 64% gap. Knowing the real number is your negotiating power.
Prices are end-of-day FX rates accurate to the prior business-day close, refreshed about every 60 seconds while the page is open. If the price feed is unavailable we fall back to the last known price and label it honestly. Read the full selling guide →
